In a significant diplomatic engagement, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed participated in a high-level phone conversation with US President Donald Trump and other regional leaders to address the ongoing conflict involving Iran and to strategize on maintaining security and stability across the Gulf region.
The dialogue was centered around diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalating tensions and bolstering regional cooperation amidst persistent instability. The call saw the participation of prominent leaders such as King Hamad of Bahrain, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, and Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir.
This discussion unfolded against the backdrop of the United States indicating progress in its negotiations with Iran. US officials have hinted that a potential agreement might be within reach, signaling a possible breakthrough in the protracted conflict.
The UAE, along with other Gulf nations, has been subjected to recurrent missile and drone attacks orchestrated by Iran since hostilities erupted on February 28. Despite a temporary ceasefire that earlier this year brought a pause to the violence, recent assaults have reignited apprehensions regarding the region’s security.
