Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized the importance of this bilateral relationship during a gala in New York, underscoring the need for increased dialogue amid ongoing global conflicts.
At the “100 Years of Friendship Gala,” Erdoğan highlighted the successful outcomes of the existing cooperation between the two NATO allies in areas such as the Middle East. He expressed Türkiye’s commitment to strengthening ties with Washington, suggesting expanded cooperation in nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and the defense industry as potential avenues for growth.
Erdoğan pointed out Türkiye’s burgeoning defense sector as an example of the country’s progress, noting that annual defense exports soared from approximately $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion today. This growth positions Türkiye as a rising player in the global defense market, with aspirations to become one of the top ten defense exporters worldwide.
In addition to defense, Erdoğan called for the removal of barriers to further joint defense production and encouraged U.S. investors to consider opportunities in Türkiye, highlighting new incentives designed to attract foreign investment. He announced a forthcoming investment initiative aimed at fostering a competitive environment for international businesses.
U.S. Senator Chris Coons also addressed the gathering, reaffirming the longstanding partnership between the two countries and the vital role that business and entrepreneurial ventures play in reinforcing this alliance. The event brought together key Turkish and American officials and business leaders, celebrating the enduring diplomatic and economic connections that bind the two nations.
